  16. No “like” or “comments” on your posts? Or is it just me. I’m enjoying your work and appreciate when ever I see that you’ve stopped by my blog. Unlike a lot of the others before me who have commented here, I do manipulate a little with my images afterwards. My feeling is that, once you point that camera, you’re manipulating reality with lighting, aperture, F stop, lens, etc. so why not in post, too? Sometimes I do tend to go overboard, I guess, but I enjoy the process. I don’t have photoshop but have been playing around with a site called picmonkey. Loads of fun.

  17. Hi Isabela, love your photos, would also like to see a like button or comments. I manipulate some of my photos using the free program picasa 3 which you can down load for free. But do enjoy your photos.

    • Hi, thank you! Yes, I believe so…small world! I have been debating whether or not to give Photoshop a try. Non-edited images are awesome, but it does seem to limit the possibilities somewhat.. 😕

    p.s. I think Photoshop is a gift from the Gods….I’d rather have a point and shoot compact WITH photoshop, than a top of the range DSLR without it…..It is so incredibly liberating…..
    Treat yourself to a copy…you’ll never regret it!

  30. Hey, Isabela, you must be the faster “liker” in the world. I think you “liked” my last entry within a nanosecond of its posting. 🙂 When I first started blogging I discovered very quickly that there is a great, and often polarized, debate out there about whether or not to optimize images with software like PShop. I liked the above comments by your readers. I learned photography in the late 60’s, creating my images in a tray of developer. There was no debate back then because if you printed your own photos, you could not avoid manipulating the images. It was a natural progression for me to move into the digital world and anticipate the need for refining my photos with software. Cameras are not perfect and can’t really reproduce exactly what you see. Their fundamental limitation is not being able to simultaneously and correctly process shadows, midtones and highlights as our eyes can. This almost always leaves something to tweak in one or more of these regions. Programs like Photoshop, Picasa and others allow you to do this so your camera’s best estimate of what the scene looked like comes more into line with what you really saw.

    Don’t feel pressed to use software; as somebody said above, it’s just as important to develop your style. But if you decide to explore the possibilities, as you put it, begin with an inexpensive program or a free one and see what you think. Your commenters mentioned Picasa and Photoshop. Adobe also makes a relatively inexpensive version of PShop called Elements, and there are others, too, that won’t break your pocketbook. If you are on a Mac, then try iPhoto. it is extremely easy and gives satisfactory results. I use it myself because it is very quick and the results are reasonable satisfactory. If you are using a PC, I think Windows includes something like iPhoto and you could try that. They all work in similar ways, so if you begin with a less costly one, your learning will transfer if you decide you want to get more serious about it in the future. Photoshop is great but it is expensive and comes with a steep learning curve. If you decide to try it, then by all means take photobypawelp up on his offer of help. I am assuming you are shooting jpegs. Another thing to consider in the future is to shoot raw files if your camera allows it. But this will require you to do some postprocessing. Sorry for being long-winded, but I really like your enthusiasm about photography and wanted to weigh in.

    • Hi Dave! haha I guess so! Thank you so much for your comment, I’m still pretty new to photo editing, etc so any advice is much appreciated. I’m hoping to try photoshop sometime soon, I believe there is a trial version so I figure that could be a good place to start 🙂

  33. Hi Isabela, thanks for taking a look at my blog. I have to agree with Dave (comment 35.) about post-processing. I have only recently started photography too, and learning to do the processing does take some time – but it is worth it, I feel. I use the Linux operating system on my computer and that has some really great free software, much of which can be used on Macs and the Windows system. Post on ‘Notes of peejoz’ if ever you want to know more – or just to chat about photography in general 🙂

I know there are multiple camps in photography about post processing or no processing and we all have to find our own happy medium. I have used multiple graphics programs with my photos and have learned that sometimes the simple changes such as cropping out distractions in the backgroiund can make a nice shot into a great image. The best thing you can do is to learn to see the world around you. The smallest little item like the center of a flower can be turned into a beautiful image if you can see it for what it can be and not just as the middle of a flower in a larger sea of plants. Keep learning and experimenting and you will continue to get better. Best wishes in your endeavors.
